8th Initiative Urheberrecht Conference on Authors' Rights
Date: 16 November 2020 / approx. 10.00 a.m. – 04.00 p.m.
Venue: Academy of Arts at Pariser Platz in Berlin
The event is also available as a livestream.
The 8th conference will take place this year under special conditions: The corona crisis has revealed the particular concern and fragility of artistic professional practice, and thus the importance of steps to stabilize the professional and social situation of professional creatives.
In autumn 2020, the Bundestag will discuss the implementation of the DSM Directive into German law according to the previously known plans. A key issues paper by the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection has outlined the intended strategy for implementing the directive, a draft bill for implementation is currently being coordinated by departments and is already being discussed intensively. The draft stipulates that in future the platforms / online service providers and not the users will be responsible for clarifying the rights. It also regulates the publisher's participation, press performance protection law and supplements the applicable copyright contract law.
The conference of the Authors’ Rights Initiative addresses the essential questions and discusses with experts from the field of copyright law, with politicians and representatives from all groups concerned as well as, of course, authors and artists in a suitable framework.
The conference will focus on several issues:
- New regulation of responsibility for the distribution of works on certain platforms
- Reforms of copyright contract law
- Publisher participation
- Linking network and copyright policy
The Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection Christine Lambrecht has already confirmed her participation, Wim Wenders will make a contribution, as will other prominent speakers - more names will soon be listed on the PROGRAM page of this website
A hybrid event is currently planned; the number of participants will have to be fewer than in previous years. The actual number of people admitted depends on the current regulations of the state of Berlin in mid-November. Visitors inside must wear a mouth and nose cover when they are not seated, we will inform you about the rest of the hygiene concept on the registration page shortly or on site.
The possibility of personal participation will be confirmed by us individually at the beginning of November.
Participation and participation via livestream is made possible.
REGISTRATION is possible at the top right of this conference website.
Simultaneous translation is planned at the moment (DE-EN).
Participation is free.
