Peter Weber was born in Mainz in November 1959. After studying law at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, he took the first state examination in 1985 and the second state examination in 1988. He began his career in the judiciary as a judge at the Koblenz Regional Court, and later as a public prosecutor for white-collar crime. In November 1991 he moved to the legal department of the Second German Television (ZDF) and specialized in copyright and international law. From 2002 to 2007 he was Vice-President and from 2007 to 2017 President of the Legal Commission of the European Broadcasting Commission, EBU. He is a member of the EBU Legal and Policy Committee. He worked for many years as coordinator for the cable retransmission of the programs of the EBU members in Eastern and Central Europe. In addition, he is chairman of the advisory board of the collecting society for film and television producers (VFF).
Mr Weber has been a member of the supervisory board of Mitteldeutsche Medienförde-rung (MDM), the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF Bayern), the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, as well as the administrative board of the Filmförderanstalt (FFA) since 2011.
In April 2001 he was appointed deputy legal advisor at ZDF. In this role he also focused on sports rights, film and producer issues. Since July 1st, 2011 he has been the legal advisor of ZDF.
